General Questions

Ah, ok kinda like a Honor Harrington setting (except there has been no mention of carriers yet and I have 19 more books to go thats including the one without the main series.) With Manticoreian ships and Haven ships lining up in a large wall, and then broadside each other. A wall of ships are ships that have stories. Think of say a really tall building, then imagine each window a ship. Or it would prob look something like this

------------------
------------------
------------------
------------------

See? each ship has a level that it is assigned to so they over lap each other but form straight lines. Like what the 19th century naval ships used to do with ships in a line this is the exact opposite. Sort of.

Well don;t have anymore questions. for now again

Did you study how the army units function to know what a tactical column is or did you have a idea before hand?

A bit of both, I've grown up on war movies and also made some war films in high-school and wrote alot of them too, so when I did those I used to research alot - but again I have researched for this one too. :)

Ah, ok.

Hmmm always good to ask a vet who was in the service for advice since they were there and could answer questions.

If that's ever the case Lew, I've Been There, Done That, got the T-shirt for it.

I'm an army vet and a combat vet from the first Gulf War.

If I can ever help please let me know.

Hi Haz,

Sorry about the monumentally late reply I haven't been on the forums in ages. Wow didn't know that, thanks so much, I'll definitely ask you if I got any questions :)

Well that episode was a blast!

Ok question time lolz

What kind of FTL drives do the ships on both sides have the same kind or diffrent types. For example which is faster.

How do Dakota and Union planets communicate to one another. I am asking this because I am assuming that Tyro Diablo got a message of some kind to the Dakota but how? Via sattelite would take some time. However i didn't see any dakota ships leave the system to get word off to Dakota space and tell about the invasion

In the Starfist universe usually if a planet comes under invasion by the Skinks (main alien baddies) it takes them 6 months to a year to tell Earth depending on how far they are from the inner colonies.

In the honor harrington universe, if a system is under attack by the Havenite fleet and the Manticoreian fleet is defending the system but needs assistance they send a message boat kind of like the Pony Express. It takes a week or 2 to get the message to the next system even with FTL. However if there is a wormhole junction then it's instant.

However if it's a regular fleet military or merchant the same rules apply as above.

Another question, how come the union armor withstood the super cannon attacks but not the regular Dakota lasers?

Hey Sean, the FTL is the same for both factions, the Union may be minutely quicker.
The Dakota and Union both have a very extensive network of listening posts littered throughout every system - be they on asteroids, some and manned some are automated, but a blip the size of the invasion group would have been big enough to be noticed, and the Dakota have fleets for every few sectors so the closest fleet sent a size appropriate strike force.
As for the super-cannons - after Van Gaal the Union spent a lot of effort upgrading their main armour to withstand such powerful attacks - a lesson they'll learn from Toyr'diablo is shielding for the Reactor Side Vents as this is where all ships are the most vulnerable, and in the latest battle it is why so many of them went up so quickly - it is something that will be touched on later in the story.

Good to see your doing your analysing though.

Yes, well actually reading many science fiction books the authors especially Weber do really deep analysis's of ship armor, communication, weapons, FTL, etc since Honor Harrington is 95 percent of the time a space series, although there are a few moments of assination's, marine landings most of it is space combat.

Yeah I was wondering why the ships blew up withthe regular Dakota lasers but not the super cannons.

I hope the U.S.S. Patton is not dead as it possible since I said before old friend I like the Patton, and her Captain Johannes Krauer and his crew and ship. Plus the Light Drive was on and that means the subspace field was still active and with that strange space wormhole thing in the system that is I bet effecting space time when the Patton crashed there was a serge of energy sent directly into the drives. Now if I'm correct the other Patton was one like a still copy that was the moment they were on and fully charged so when they hit and the real Patton was destroyed a quantum duplicate was formed when the subspace copy jump to light speed and once it enter it the energies made the copy all whole.

The U.S.S. Patton copy is of course going the other way as to deep into enemy space.

Captain Krauer a brave misunderstood man who uses his head in battle.

I consider him for a rank of Admiral for what he did after that battle.

He saw the fleet getting chewed up and would be finish if they stayed as he made the right call to order a full retreat.

It would have work and more lives saved if they got there heads out of there pants and listen to the senor Captain of the fleet and tried to fight not even covering there fellow ships.

He saved a great many lives that day no matter what anyone will say about the Captain hes a hero. Everyone else was an idiot.
